A Season at Lyrico

Our choir community is a place where young people discover what they're capable of.

Through inspiring rehearsals, meaningful performances, and caring artistic leadership, children develop musicianship alongside confidence, responsibility, teamwork, and lifelong friendships.

Whether your child has been singing for years or is simply curious about joining a choir for the first time, they'll be welcomed into an environment where every voice matters and every child belongs.

September

Auditions are held for new choristers and returning members are welcomed back. New faces become familiar friends. Children who arrived feeling nervous begin discovering that they belong.

October

Youth continue to work with our talented Directors Britney Huynh and Kim Denis as music begins to take shape, voices become stronger and confidence grows.

November

The Gift of Music marks our first major performance of the season held at Festival Place, celebrating weeks of hard work and introducing many new choristers to the excitement of performing together.

January & February

Rehearsals become filled with laughter, encouragement, and the friendships that make Monday evenings something to look forward to. The Senior Choir attends an overnight retreat at Camp Nakamun, where their musical education is further strengthened.

March

The Imagine Concert takes place at Festival Place and celebrates the joy of making music together. This concert often features special guests and collaborations that give our singers new experiences while strengthening connections within the community.

April & May

These final two months are a time of remarkable growth as all the weeks of learning, confidence, and teamwork come together in song. The Sounds of Spring Concert brings another unforgettable season to a joyful close while celebrating how far every chorister has come.

Junior Choir

For singers in grades 2 - 5. Rehearsals run from 5pm to 6:15pm on Monday evenings.

For many children, Junior Choir is where a lifelong love of music begins.

Designed for young singers, Junior Choir introduces these budding musicians to the joy of singing together in a fun, encouraging, and supportive environment. Through games, movement, age-appropriate vocal training, and engaging repertoire, choristers build strong musical foundations while developing confidence that extends well beyond the rehearsal room.

Under the direction of Britney Huynh, an enthusiastic and accomplished music educator, every rehearsal is designed to inspire curiosity, creativity, and a genuine love of singing. Britney creates an atmosphere where children feel safe to try new things, celebrate their progress, and discover the confidence that comes from making music together.

The Junior Choir enjoys a variety of memorable musical experiences throughout the year. In addition to performing in seasonal concerts, choristers often participate in an annual school tour, sharing their music with local elementary schools and inspiring other young singers. They also have the opportunity to work with guest clinicians during several rehearsals each season, giving them the chance to learn from experienced musicians and explore new ideas in a fun and engaging way.

Parents are often amazed at how quickly their children grow in confidence. Many begin the season quietly finding their place and finish it proudly performing on stage with an excitement that continues long after the final rehearsal.

Whether your child has been singing around the house for years or is simply curious to give choir a try, Junior Choir offers a welcoming place where every young voice is valued, every child is encouraged to grow, and a lifelong love of musical performance can begin.

Senior Choir

For singers in grades 6 - 12. Rehearsals run from 6pm to 7:30pm on Monday evenings.

Senior Choir is where young musicians discover just how much they're capable of.

Designed for older singers, the Senior Choir focuses on more advanced vocal technique, musicianship, and a wider range of challenging repertoire. Choristers learn to sing with greater independence, refine their artistry, and experience the excitement of bringing ambitious music to life as a unified ensemble.

Under the direction of Kim Denis, a highly experienced and inspiring choral conductor, singers are encouraged to strive for musical excellence while growing in confidence and self-expression. Kim creates an environment where high standards are balanced with encouragement, helping every chorister feel supported as they develop both individually and as part of the choir.

Throughout the season, Senior Choir performs in concerts, collaborates with guest clinicians, and enjoys opportunities to perform throughout the community. One highlight of the year is their annual overnight retreat to Camp Nakamun, where choristers spend two days immersed in music. Working with guest clinicians, participating in focused  workshops, and sharing time together outside of regular rehearsals helps strengthen both musicianship and the friendships that make choir such a meaningful experience.

For many singers, Senior Choir becomes much more than a weekly rehearsal. It's a place where they feel challenged, encouraged, and inspired. The confidence gained through performing, the leadership opportunities that naturally emerge, and the lifelong friendships formed along the way often become some of the most memorable parts of their teenage years.

Whether your child has previous choir experience or is ready for a new musical challenge, Senior Choir offers an exceptional experience where young people can develop their talents while finding a place to belong.

Artistic Staff

The music our choristers perform is only part of what our Directors teach. Every rehearsal is an opportunity to encourage curiosity, build confidence, celebrate progress, and help young people discover what they're capable of accomplishing.

Our artistic team brings years of experience in music education and performance, but just as importantly, they understand that every child learns differently. They create rehearsals that are welcoming, engaging, and appropriately challenging, helping each chorister develop healthy vocal technique while discovering the joy of singing together. Whether they're introducing a new song, preparing for a concert, or simply sharing a laugh during rehearsal, our Directors create an environment where every child feels seen, supported, and encouraged to grow.

Many choristers arrive because they enjoy singing, but they continue to stay year after year because they discover a community that believes in them.

Become a Chorister

Joining Lyrico Youth Choirs is a simple process, and we'd love the opportunity to meet your family. The first step begins with a short, friendly audition, followed by registration for the upcoming season.

The word "audition" can sound intimidating, but ours are designed to be relaxed, supportive, and encouraging. We're not looking for perfect singers or years of musical training, we simply want to hear their voice and see if they will be successful within the choir. During the audition, your child may be asked to:

• Match simple pitches sung or played on the piano.

• Sing a familiar song like Happy Birthday.

• Participate in a few short listening and musical activities.

Most auditions only take about 5 minutes and are conducted in a welcoming atmosphere. If your child enjoys singing and is excited to learn, we'd love the opportunity to meet them.

Financial Assistance

Helping every child find their voice.

We believe financial circumstances should never prevent a young person from experiencing the joy of choral music.

Through the Wittenberg Scholarship Program, financial assistance is available to families who may need support with registration fees. Applications are reviewed confidentially, and every request is treated with care and respect.

The Wittenberg family created this scholarship in honour of their daughter Stephanie who was a member of the choir and was lost in a tragic car accident. Thank you to the Wittenberg family for sharing Stephanie’s love for music through this annual scholarship in her name.

Many families have benefited from this program over the years, allowing children to participate and experience opportunities that might otherwise have been out of reach.
